About the Function and Mission of the Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper Foundation

As a resident of the Atlanta community who is dedicated to supporting the environment, Brian Lusink maintains membership to the Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper foundation. Brian Lusink, who also supports the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Pediatric Hospital, currently works as a Vice President, Wealth Advisor, and Portfolio Manager for the Premier Wealth Management Executive Team for Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. His commitment to working with the Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper (UCR) foundation helps the nonprofit continue various endeavors, such as water conservation, water monitoring, education, and training measures.

First, UCR supports water conservation programs that teach individuals how to more efficiently utilize their water at work, at home, and in the garden. The Chattahoochee River provides water for more than 3 million Georgia citizens and 70 percent of metropolitan Atlanta. The watershed used to serve this population is the smallest of any to supply a metropolitan area in the United States, and UCR works to safeguard this source.

Next, UCR’s team conducts monthly water quality tests and site investigations for the many projects taking place along the shores of the River. Along with these monthly patrols, this organization also tests the water quality of Lake Lanier and analyzes the possibility of dissolved oxygen near the area where the Chattahoochee River meets Peachtree Creek.

This group takes several measures to educate the public on the numerous issues affecting the watershed. Some of the sponsored programs that invite the community to learn more about the Chattahoochee River include the interactive CD-ROM Waters to the Sea, continuing education certification classes, a floating classroom that allows students to board the learning center and study the wildlife and water levels, and workshops that teach individuals how to stop muddy runoff from flowing into the river.
